Here are the steps to clean iron pots and pans with salt and warm vegetable oil, given from the professional cleaners Chase Cross. Only you need to follow them.
- At the beginning start with rubbing the item you’re going to clean with fine steel wool. This should be done in order to get rid of the dirt and rust collected there. Wipe after rubbing and repeat if there is rust left.
- Turn on the stove oven at medium heat and then place there the item you’re cleaning. Add vegetable oil and wait for several minutes till the bottom is coated, then turn off the heat and prepare for continue cleaning.
- Put on your hands protecting gloves for your skin and add 2 or 3 tablespoons of salt in the item. Scrub the item with a paper towel focusing on the spots of rust. Make sure all the surface is covered with the mixture of oil and salt because it acts as an abrasive there. Add from the ingredients if it’s necessary.
- After cleaning the item, cleaners Chase Cross advise you to wash it with hot water and dish washing soap. Wipe after washing and then clean with a paper towel to remove any excess of oil on the surface.
It’s important to clean your iron pans and pots after each using. Scrub them with salt, rinse with cold water and dry with paper towels. If there is still remaining spot dump more salt and repeat the process again.
